Our middle grades program for campers entering 6th-9th grades is geared towards developing outdoor survival skills, appreciation for the local landscape, education about resources available to us in nature, connecting with peers, and developing independence and confidence in taking on new adventures.
July 27-July 31
Backcountry Boot Camp prepares Brownsville Base Camp Adventurers for responsible and safe exploration in remote environments. Campers will learn Leave No Trace principles, practice map reading and navigation skills, and gain basic first aid knowledge for backcountry settings. This week focuses on safety, stewardship, and confidence-building through hands-on outdoor learning.

My Side of the Mountain: Nature Skills invites Brownsville Base Camp Adventurers to explore the natural world by learning directly from nature. Campers will observe animal behaviors, track wildlife, identify native plants, and investigate freshwater macro and micro invertebrates. Through hands-on discovery and outdoor exploration, adventurers will build observation skills, curiosity, and a deeper connection to the environment.

Wilderness Survival 101 invites Brownsville Base Camp Adventurers to step into the wild and learn the essential skills every explorer needs. Throughout the week, campers will practice building shelters, safely starting and managing fires, filtering and purifying water, and using effective signaling techniques for emergencies. This hands-on adventure builds confidence, teamwork, and problem-solving skills while connecting campers to the outdoors in a fun and safe environment.

Bushcraft Academy challenges Brownsville Base Camp Adventurers to become resourceful outdoor creators. Throughout the week, campers will learn how to build useful items using natural materials, developing practical skills, creativity, and respect for the environment. This hands-on experience encourages problem-solving, teamwork, and confidence in the outdoors.
