About Us

The Mission of the Brownsville Base Camp is to provide experiences and opportunities for children to play and learn outdoors. Through adventure and play children can gain a sense of independence, confidence, skill development, and deep connection to nature and community.

Meet Our Team

  • Annalise Ennis

    Explorers Camp Director

    Annalise Ennis is a long time West Windsor resident that lives in Happy Canyon with her husband, teenage daughter and her dog, Doctor Watson. She returns to Base Camp with years of experience as a camp counselor and a director of youth skiing programs. On top of that she's been working at the local elementary school, Albert Bridge School, as a Social Emotional Interventionist and Enrichment coordinator for 11 years. Annalise is a certified parent trainer for Collaborative Problem Solving through Massachusetts General Hospital/ThinkKids.org, and a member of the WSESU Trauma Champion team. Annalise's passions outside of work are spending time in her garden, painting, reading, singing and going on adventures in the woods. She is looking forward to bringing her love of the outdoors and the arts together to allow campers the opportunity to combine nature with art. She is also extremely excited about working with such an excellent group of counselors.

  • Julia Zalesak

    Adventurers Camp Director

    Julia grew up on the shores of the Chesapeake Bay and has always enjoyed playing outside and camping. She learned to teach nature connection and survival skills at a year-long program at Wilderness Awareness School in Duval, WA. She has also added to her bag of tricks teaching at Primitive Pursuits in Ithaca, NY and IslandWood (A School in the Woods) in Bainbridge Island, WA. She had the privilege of being a program director with the Greenwell Foundation in Hollywood, MD where she got to use all she learned to develop programs for disabled adults, veterans, toddlers, campers, teens, and school children. She has been an outdoor educator or public school teacher for over 17 years and can’t wait to work outside with campers on Mt. Ascutney.

  • Samantha Yates

    Explorer Assistant Director

    Samantha Yates is a lifelong resident of Brownsville, and returning for a second summer at Base Camp. She has two younger siblings at Albert Bridge School. She has two years of experience working with kids of all ages. As a student athlete at Fitchburg State University she has been involved with running many youth sports clinics. She is excited to be in Brownsville for the summer!

  • Ruben Morales

    Assistant Adventurers Camp Director

    Ruben grew up in Chelsea, Massachusetts and for the last 5 years has worked as a social emotional interventionist at Albert Bridge School. Ruben has a passion for camping and hiking in the woods along with swimming and fishing. He is currently coaching Junior Varsity Lacrosse at Hartford High School.

  • Henry Moore

    Explorer Counselor

    Henry is finishing his freshman year as an environmental studies major at the University of Vermont. He loves spending time outdoors in the form of swimming, snowboarding, and all things sports. Henry has a great appreciation for the outdoors and is excited to share this with campers!

  • Maddy Lawyer

    Explorer Counselor

    Maddy is joining camp this year as a full time counselor. She has lived in Reading and Weathersfield her whole life and loves the surrounding area of nature and community. Maddy is finishing her first year at Keene State Honors College where she is studying Secondary Education, English and Theater. She has been involved in theater and enjoyed singing all her life, and is eager to share her passion with campers this summer. She also enjoys hiking, swimming, looking for bugs, and making fairy houses in the woods.

  • Sam Moore

    Ride Leader

    Sam Moore is a geosciences major at the University of Vermont where he received training to lead backcountry trips for the University's Outing Club. He is an avid mountain biker and backcountry skiier who loves to spend as much time as possible outdoors. Sam is a certified bike instructor and is looking to expand our biking program in his second summer at Base Camp. He is excited to be a part of this community and share his love of the outdoors!

  • Haley Racicot

    Assistant Ride Leader

    Haley is from Ludlow, VT and is a business major at UVM where she is also on the club cycling and ski teams. Haley loves to ski and mountain bike. She has been riding Ascutney’s trails since she learned to ride a bike. She loves being able to share her passion for the outdoors with the younger generation and she can’t wait to return to Base Camp this summer and show the kids around her home turf!

Meet Our Founders

Amanda Yates is an experienced educator with over 20 years of teaching experience. Amanda is currently a teacher at the Albert Bridge School, and a member of the Ascutney Outdoors board. She has previously led the Mary L. Blood Library youth programming.

Jess Brodie is an experienced Parks & Recreation professional with over 18 years of experience organizing summer camps and community programs & events. She is currently the Executive Director of the VT Recreation & Parks Association.

Chris Nesbitt is a serial entrepreneur with experience across several different industries. He is a long time Upper Valley Land Trust Board member and a volunteer fundraiser for nonprofit organizations.
